The Zombie sub genre of video games often makes for some of the best horror survival titles on the market today.
Zombies are the gifts that keep on giving; they make for great slaughter fodder, but also put human characters’ lives in serious peril, and always make the stories they’re in that much more intense when it comes to life or death stakes. So today, we’re counting down our picks for the top 10 scary zombie video games you shouldn’t play alone. Most of these games on our list are titles that are single player, and are considered some of the best zombie games out there, but provide quite a lot of fright. There’s no shame in wanting to hang with a buddy while bawling your eyes out over certain character’s narrative turmoils! Or having another person in the room while you scream your head off trying to not get dead. If anything, it even makes it more fun at times. So with that in mind, let’s jump into our list! 10 Dead Space Space zombies https://hucast.net/poker-pros-bio/! Dead Space is one of the less traditional zombie video games on our list. And it’s scary as hell. It’s jump scare city with this one. Essentially, you play as Isaac Clark, a ship systems engineer who fights his way through a bunch of aliens on the ship he’s working on, while also trying to not die thanks to the reanimated corpses of his crew mates, known as Necromorphs. These necromorphs come in various shapes and sizes, all of which aren’t the most fun to come face to face with, as you can imagine. 9 Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare Red Dead Redemption is already a phenomenal game. So when it’s Zombie DLC, Undead Nightmare, came out, it also got rave reviews. Set in what feels like an alternate timeline, you play as John Marston, traversing through the map of the game, except now, the world around you is zombified. Your goal is to find the cause of the zombie outbreak and search for a cure, all while liberating towns that are over run by zombies. That latter bit makes for a cool mechanic, because as you progress, towns can be overthrown while you’re off on side missions or in other places on the map, meaning you have to travel back in clear out the hordes. You also have the option to ride around on four specific mythically inspired horses; the four horses of the apocalypse, all of which have abilities that pertain to the horseman of the apocalypse that they were inspired by. And of course, you’ve gotta tame em before being able to ride them. 8 Days Gone The only reason why Days Gone isn’t higher on this list is because at the time of this recording, its not out yet. Days Gone takes the zombie sub genre to a whole new level. It’s introducing brand new mechanics that make the hoards of zombies and the dire need to survive all that more potent; one mechanic allows for hoards of zombies to grow in numbers and chase you. So yeah, you’ll be crapping your pants a bit when it comes to some missions. With highly realistic graphics, a new take on zombie behaviour and nightmarish human rivals that you’ll be trying to not get killed by, you can take a guess why its scored itself an 18+ rating. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6uED22JERB8 7 Left 4 Dead Left 4 Dead is a video game series that you don’t have the option of playing alone. Lucky you! The game is set during the aftermath of a zombie outbreak. You play one of the four survivors in the game who must take down hordes of zombies. Simple as that. Except its pretty frightening, and there are various modes the series boast that make for one hell of a time, especially since it gives players a very cinematic visual experience. If that doesn’t sell you, maybe the slew of awards the series has gotten will. It’s scored awards from the British Academy of Film and Television, and the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences. 6 7 days to die 7 Days to Die is from TellTale publishing, RIP. It takes place after a fictional third world war that involved a whole lot of nuking, which destroyed much of the world. You’re one of the survivors navigating the fallout, and must find food, shelter, water, all that fun stuff, all while trying to not get dead as zombies try to hunt you down. The zombies are one of the unfortunate effects of the fallout. Joy.
